Article: Reservoir Record Featuring How You Glow

Reservoir Record Featuring How You Glow

Welcome to the first edition of our Reservoir Record where we interview inspiring female entrepreneurs in LA and feature them in shoppable stories. To kick it off, we spoke with Tara Sowlaty and Jessie Groveman, founders of the incredibly informative and beautifully designed lifestyle resource How You Glow. We recently hosted an in-store yoga event with the duo (ps - for invitations to events like these, sign up to receive our newsletter on Reservoir-la.com!), and were able to ask about some insider info on their business and go-to spots in LA.

How did you guys come up with the idea for How You Glow?

We both prioritize finding the vibrancy in daily life, and that is the backbone of How You Glow. As a natural foods chef/holistic nutritionist (Tara), and a yoga teacher/art therapist (Jessie), we were both already working in the wellness space but wanted to explore it deeper and collaborate more often. We were introduced to each other and instantly clicked on our balanced, playful approach to a "healthy living" but mostly over our LOVE of food. Combining our expertises in wellness, food, yoga, and more, we initially wanted to create a physical space, but decided launch a site instead to reach even more people and maintain our freedom to explore different cities and cultures.

How did you meet?

We were introduced by our very close mutual friends the Arlook sisters, who thought we could connect and collaborate.

How do you keep your business relevant and moving forward all the time?

Because we really are our own target audience, we are constantly on the look out for what best enhances our lives. The magic of it all though is sharing this knowledge with our followers and hopefully inspiring a positive shift or a dose of happiness in their lives.

How do you balance work life vs. personal life?
In the beginning this was a little challenging; since we are our own bosses no one was telling us to "go home” and stop for the day. That said, HYG is really just a very natural and consistent part of our daily lives that adds value and stimulates us, energizing our personal lives.

What are your favorite spots in LA for fitness and food?

You guys travel a ton: what are your carry-on essentials?

Essential oils are a must! And lipo-spheric vitamin C packets, colloidal silver spray, a scarf for protection and or to use as a pillow, Away suitcases because they can charge your phone, fresh fruit (no nasty plane food), Joa hand sanitizer, crystals for good vibes, cozy socks, bon appetite mag, 99 Visions meditation book, Allswell journal and a good pen.

What words of wisdom would you offer other female entrepreneurs trying to follow their passion?
Create from your own passion. Find a way to work in and around what you love, and from that goodness will flourish.
